I woke up on a usual day here at UW, content that I didn't have class until 2:25, yet had decided to wake up at 9:45 so I could get some breakfast. Then I flipped on Sportscenter, and stopped dead. I will not lie. I teared up. Brett Favre has been my role model, my hero, and my favorite NFL player since my youth. I'm only 20, so Favre has been a constant for me. Ever since I understood the concept of football, Brett Favre has been with the Packers. Now, I will have to get used to Aaron Rodgers under center, tossing bombs to Greg Jennings and Donald Driver.
It's hard to believe for me... it seems like the end of an era. Brett Favre has always been my favorite player, because of the way he comported himself, his mental and physical toughness, and his desire to play the game. Still, if what they say is true, that he no longer had the "fire" in him to prepare week in and week out, then I feel it was good for him to retire. Though right now I am heartbroken, I feel that I would rather Brett Favre go out (almost) on top. He was within a few plays of the Super Bowl, he was voted the starter for the Pro Bowl, and he had a good young team around him. Now, with Aaron Rodgers left to man a team with a lot of potential, I wish the best for him. I would rather see Brett go down on a good note than come back and be like Jerry Rice or Emmitt Smith, slowly puttering to a stop with mediocre years. Instead, his legacy is left untarnished, and he has cemented his status as one of the top 5 QB's of all time (in my mind anyways.)

Brett Favre retires: My life changes foreverThis statement is the best statement I have read so far about Brett Fabre. He is my role model and hero also, the reason I have coem to like the packers. I will neevr forget the days of Brett Favre's greatness although I have not always known his greatness. I do wish he would saty one more season with the packers as I think he needs to get rodgers more experience and I think this year, he could bring the packers to get one more Superbowl under the leadership and amazingness of Brett Favre. I will always remember Brett and No quarterback will ever be able to replace him in my mind or on the Green Bay PAckers. GO PACKERS AND GO BRETT FAVRE. Brett Favre retires: My life changes foreverI honestly have to say I will miss him. Even though he destroyed my Lions many times, I will still miss him. He was such a great player, that even on my team's rival team I enjoyed watching him play. He was just unbelievable, and football won't seem the same without him. It may give my Lions a better chance to win now (yeah right, the Lions win), but it will be sad to see him not on the Packers anymore. |

Brett Favre retires: My life changes foreverThe 2 best TD passing plays, IMO, from the Brett favre era... You could go through a list of probably 500 spectacular passes but not all of them rate up there with these 2.... Superbowl XXXI - 2nd play from scrimmage in the game - 54 yard bomb to Andre Rison - TD!!! - This showed The New England Patriots who there dady was and showed the world who their king was, bow to your master.. Monday October 29th, 2007 - tied with Denver 13-13 going into OT - Green Bay wins the toss and lines up - 1st play from scrimmage, BOOM, 82 yard bomb to Greg Jennings to win the game I'm sure alot of you will come back with other ones that you think are the best ones he did. While they all were spectacular in their own right, they will all be just memories now. Good luck Brett in whatever you do, you will be a hero in all of our hearts. |

Brett Favre retires: My life changes foreverBrett Favre's first and last passes were interceptions. But what people will remember is what he accomplished in between. His stats are highly impressive, but more importantly he will be remembered by the way he played the game. He was a great sportsman and a fierce competitor that never settled for defeat. I will always remember his great last minute comeback's with the Packers and the one where he led the unranked Southern Miss Eagles to a last second touchdown over the 6th ranked Florida State Seminoles in 1989. Off the field he was a great person. He is the epitome of a quarterback that all coaches look for. Whether you liked him or not, you had to have respect for him. He will definitely go down as one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game. |
